Russo Brothers Join ‘Rambo’ Prequel as Executive Producers, Noah Centineo in Final Talks to Play Young Rambo

Joe and Anthony Russo are adding another major project to their busy schedule. The directing duo, famous for their work on Marvel’s Avengers films, have signed on to executive produce a new Rambo prequel through their company, AGBO.

The film, called John Rambo, will dive into the early years of the legendary action hero before the events that made him famous. Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, known for Sisu, will direct the movie. According to reports, Noah Centineo is close to finalizing a deal to play the young Rambo.

Lionsgate and Millennium Media are backing the project, with Lionsgate handling global distribution. The studio plans to start production in Thailand in early 2026. The story will take place during the Vietnam War and explore the experiences that shaped Rambo into the battle-hardened soldier made iconic by Sylvester Stallone.

Charlotte Koh, executive vice president at Lionsgate, praised the Russo brothers’ involvement, saying, “AGBO’s entire team, led by Anthony and Joe, are creative innovators who are delivering the most emotionally satisfying and inventive action-led storytelling in theaters around the world today.”

The producing team includes Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco from AGBO, along with Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, and Jonathan Yunger from Millennium Media. The script was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

Angela Russo-Otstot shared her thoughts on the project, saying, “Rambo is one of the most enduring and iconic figures in action cinema, and exploring the origins of that mythology is an incredibly exciting opportunity.”

The Russo brothers are keeping busy with several other projects, including The Electric State, which premiered on Netflix earlier this year, and the upcoming Marvel films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. AGBO is also behind popular action hits like The Gray Man and the Extraction series.
