During Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel for ‘Avengers Doomsday,’ a figure in a grey and black Deadpool suit started making noise from inside the audience, and for a moment, nobody in the room seemed entirely sure who was actually under the mask.

That uncertainty was the whole point. Ryan Reynolds had blended into the crowd wearing a comic-accurate grey and black version of Deadpool’s costume, one built entirely from denim and never before seen in a live action setting, and stayed in character long enough that people around him genuinely did not realize it was him until he started talking.

Once Robert Downey Jr, sitting on stage as Doctor Doom, gestured toward the figure and asked who the guy with the sword was, the bit escalated further. Reynolds stayed in character to fire off questions of his own, at one point pressing Paul Rudd about the whereabouts of Thor and why the character had reportedly been crying in earlier footage.

Only after the exchange played out did Reynolds confirm what many in the room had started to suspect, later sharing a close-up image of himself in the suit without the mask on social media. The grey and black color scheme is a deep cut for longtime readers, tracing back to Deadpool’s stint with the X-Force in the comics, where the team traded brighter uniforms for a more stealth-focused palette.

That detail alone sent fans into a frenzy of speculation. The suit’s construction out of dark and grey denim, paired with a small Canadian flag stitched onto the chest, turned the costume into a layered joke that leaned into both comic accuracy and Reynolds’ own nationality at the same time.

Whether or not this specific costume ends up appearing in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ itself remains unconfirmed, and Marvel did not use the moment to officially announce Reynolds joining the film’s cast. Reports around the panel do suggest Deadpool will factor into the story in some capacity, though the extent of that involvement is still being kept under wraps ahead of the film’s release.

For an actor who has built an entire career around blurring the line between himself and his most famous character, sneaking through a convention crowd undetected before hijacking a major panel feels like the most Deadpool thing Reynolds could possibly do.
