Ryan Reynolds Releases the Secret “Reynolds Cut” of ‘Green Lantern’ Movie & We’re Speechless
Before he achieved widespread fame by playing Deadpool, a character he was seemingly born to play, Ryan Reynolds was Hal Jordan, the most popular member of the Green Lantern Corps.
Fans were excited about the movie at first, but soon after the release it became evident that it’s going to be remembered for drastically different reasons.
‘Green Lantern’ had several issues, the storyline lacked depth and failed to properly introduce Hal Jordan’s journey as Green Lantern – it was too ambitious and too crowded for an origin story.
The plot was considered generic, trying to balance Jordan’s origin story with cosmic elements like the Green Lantern Corps and Parallax, the villain. The movie was also too heavily reliant on CGI, which didn’t age well even shortly after the film’s release.
The visual effects, especially the fully CGI suit worn by Ryan Reynolds, were often criticized for looking cartoonish and distracting, and it’s been a long-running joke in the community, something that Reynolds himself often references.
In fact, the actor can’t stop picking on the movie, and recently, Reynolds took to social media to release “The Reynolds Cut” of ‘Green Lantern’ a reference to ‘Synder’s Cut’ of ‘Justice League’ which according to many fans highly improved the movie.
Well, in Reynolds’ case, it also improved the movie.
The re-cut of ‘Green Lantern’ starts with the ‘Deadpool 2’ post-credits scene where Deadpool prevents Ryan Reynolds from taking the Green Lantern role. It then condenses the entire movie into four brief scenes: Green Lantern’s father dies, Green Lantern becomes a pilot, gets the ring, and defeats Parallax.
Tom Cruise unexpectedly appears as Green Lantern at the end. The re-cut even includes a post-credits scene where Green Lantern meets the Justice League before flying off.
Improvement in every sense of the word. What do you think about the Reynolds Cut of ‘Green Lantern’? Let us know in the comments below!
