Sadie Sink Didn’t Even Audition for Her Secret ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Role — Here’s How She Joined Marvel
Sadie Sink is joining the Marvel universe in a way most actors can only dream about. The Stranger Things star revealed that she was offered her mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day without even having to audition.
In an interview with Nylon, Sink opened up about stepping into the world of Marvel and how different the experience has been compared to her previous projects. The actress said she already had a connection with director Destin Daniel Cretton, which helped lead to her being considered for the film.
Sink previously worked with Cretton on the 2017 drama The Glass Castle, and that past collaboration played a role in bringing her into the Spider-Man franchise. Instead of going through the traditional audition process, Sink was offered the role directly.
The actress admitted that joining a massive franchise like Spider-Man was a completely new experience. Even though she has spent years dealing with the huge popularity of Stranger Things, she said Marvel operates on another level.
“I knew Marvel was a big deal, but it feels really big. These blockbuster movies are a whole different beast,” Sink said.
The details of Sink’s character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day are still being kept secret, but the mystery has already created plenty of excitement among fans. Sink said she has become used to protecting major spoilers after spending nearly a decade working on Stranger Things, so keeping Marvel secrets has not been too difficult.
“You just don’t share the secret, it’s not that hard,” she joked.
Sink also explained that she did not even receive a full script until she arrived in London for filming. The actress was balancing her Marvel work with her West End production of Romeo & Juliet, where she played Juliet alongside Noah Jupe.
Moving from theater to a major superhero film was a big adjustment, but Sink said the Spider-Man cast and crew helped her feel comfortable. She specifically praised Tom Holland, who plays Peter Parker in the franchise, for making the transition easier.
“It was interesting stepping into that space and being a little bit of an outsider in that way, but he could not have been more welcoming, and just the whole crew in general,” Sink said. “He was just so relaxed and open, and I felt very at ease.”
For Sink, joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks another major step in her career after her breakout role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things. With the Netflix series coming to an end, the actress has been exploring new challenges, from award-nominated theater performances to blockbuster movies.
While fans are eager to learn who Sink will play in the upcoming Spider-Man film, Marvel has kept her role under wraps. Her casting has already become one of the film’s biggest talking points, especially because she was chosen without a traditional audition.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring Sink into one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises, and although she is keeping the details secret, she has made it clear that the experience has been unlike anything she has done before.
