Marvel has built an entire marketing playbook around keeping secrets, but few mysteries have driven fans quite as crazy as the identity of Sadie Sink’s character in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. With the film’s July 31 release date creeping closer, every scrap of new footage or offhand comment from Sink has turned into its own viral moment, and her latest teaser is no exception.

The secrecy around her role has been unusually tight even by Marvel standards. Sink joined the film’s cast back in March 2025, and in the time since, Marvel and Sony have never confirmed exactly who she’s playing. Her role was kept so under wraps that she reportedly never even auditioned and didn’t see the script until she flew to London for filming.

That secrecy hasn’t stopped Sink from dropping breadcrumbs during her press tour, and her newest clip is the latest example.

The theory that refuses to die is that Sink is playing a young version of Jean Grey. Fans point to leaked merchandise showing her character radiating pink energy from her hands and eyes, wearing the same green and yellow outfit seen in the trailers, and even sporting Jean Grey’s signature yellow color palette. Trailer footage has also shown her character orchestrating some kind of breakout from Damage Control, with strong hints toward psychic, puppet master style abilities that would fit neatly into Jean Grey’s powerset.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Trailers Are Reportedly Hiding a Massive Twist About Jean Grey’s Real Role

Not everyone is convinced the Jean Grey theory holds up, though. Some reports suggest her character may actually be a shapeshifter rather than a telepath, and Sink herself once told Entertainment Weekly during an interview that people forget hair color can change, when asked directly about her role.

Other leaked set photos have fueled a competing theory that she could instead be playing Rachel Cole, a lesser-known Punisher ally from the comics, based on glimpses caught near Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle scenes.

Her co-stars have been just as tight-lipped, though clearly impressed by what she’s pulled off. Tom Holland recently praised her performance directly, saying she handled the pressure of the character with grace and that she steals the movie during the third act. Holland has also admitted that some of the wildest fan theories circulating online are weirdly accurate to what actually happens in the film, though he’s refused to confirm which ones.

Who do you think Sadie Sink is playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

With the film now just two weeks away, Sink’s clue-dropping streak shows no signs of stopping, and neither does the fan theorizing it keeps fueling. Whether she turns out to be Jean Grey, a shapeshifter, or something audiences haven’t even guessed yet, Marvel has clearly succeeded at turning silence itself into one of the film’s most effective marketing tools.
