Salma Hayek’s Biggest Hollywood Regret: The Movie She Wants Erased
Salma Hayek once reflected on her 2014 action thriller Everly, calling it a film she wishes she could erase from her career.
In a brief comment to The Guardian, she said, “We don’t want to talk about. It’s not what I thought it would be. I want it to go away, that one.”
Directed by Joe Lynch, Everly tells the story of a woman trapped by a crime lord who fights back to protect herself and her family.
Despite Hayek’s strong performance, critics criticized the movie for its over-the-top violence and weak storyline. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 29% approval rating, while Metacritic shows a score of 35, signaling generally unfavorable reviews.
The film first appeared on iTunes in early 2015, before a limited release in theaters. This early digital release was unusual at the time and is similar to the streaming-first strategies that became more common later.
While the movie didn’t succeed with audiences or critics, it gave Hayek a chance to explore a different type of role and experiment with new ways of releasing films.
Hayek also reflected on the industry’s expectations for women, joking about rumors she wouldn’t work after turning 35. While Everly may not have been a hit, it remains a small but notable part of her career.
It’s interesting to see a major star openly admit disappointment with a project. It shows that even successful actors take risks, and sometimes those risks don’t pay off. What do you think about Everly or other movies actors regret? Share your thoughts in the comments.
