Samara Weaving May Be Adding Another Franchise to Her Resume With a Reported ‘Legend of Zelda’ Casting

Samara Weaving has quietly become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand genre stars, bouncing between horror, comedy, and now blockbuster franchise filmmaking with remarkable ease. Her rise from Australian soap opera roots to horror-comedy standout has positioned her as a favorite among casting directors looking for someone who can balance charisma with edge.

That momentum only accelerated recently when Weaving landed the role of Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men’ reboot, placing her firmly inside one of the industry’s biggest cinematic universes. Now, just as that buzz begins to settle, a new report suggests Weaving may already be lining up her next major franchise role. According to industry insider DanielRPK, Weaving has reportedly been cast as Hylia in Nintendo and Sony’s long-awaited live-action ‘Legend of Zelda‘ film.

Details around Weaving’s alleged casting remain scarce, and neither Nintendo nor Sony Pictures has confirmed her involvement in the project. Earlier reporting from other outlets, citing a separate insider known as The Beyond Reporter, had also floated Weaving joining the cast but stopped short of naming which character she might play.

The identification of Hylia specifically adds a new layer of intrigue for longtime fans of the franchise. Within the games, Hylia is deeply tied to the mythology surrounding Hyrule and the origins of the Triforce, making any live-action interpretation of the character a significant addition to the film’s mythology-building.

Weaving’s rumored addition would join an already stacked and steadily growing cast list for the adaptation. Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth were confirmed months ago as Princess Zelda and Link, respectively, with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto personally announcing the casting alongside the film’s May 7, 2027 release date.

Since then, the ensemble has continued to fill out with genre-favorite talent. Uli Latukefu has been confirmed as the film’s central antagonist Ganondorf, while Dichen Lachman is set to play Impa, Zelda’s bodyguard and advisor. Yvonne Strahovski has also joined in an as-yet-unnamed role tied to Hyrule’s royal family, and the late Sam Neill reportedly filmed a role for the project as well.

Weaving’s potential involvement fits neatly into a career built on genre-defining performances. She first broke through with ‘Ready or Not,’ a horror-comedy that showcased her ability to be both funny and genuinely unsettling in the same breath, a skill that made her a natural fit for Marvel’s Emma Frost.

Since then, she’s continued building out an eclectic filmography, appearing in ‘Scream VI,’ the horror thriller ‘Azrael,’ and ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music,’ along with the recently released ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.’ With Wes Ball, the filmmaker behind ‘The Maze Runner’ and ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,’ directing the Zelda adaptation, the project has already signaled ambitions to lean into a more serious, high-stakes tone rather than a straightforward family-friendly retelling.
