Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu Might Return to Star Wars – Director Confirms Talks

It looks like there’s still hope for Star Wars fans who want to see Mace Windu back in action. Director and actress Bryce Dallas Howard recently shared that she talked to Lucasfilm about bringing Samuel L. Jackson’s character back into the galaxy far, far away.

While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Howard was asked which actors she’d love to direct one day. After mentioning her Jurassic World co-star Chris Pratt, she brought up Samuel L. Jackson, saying: “Sam Jackson has been incredibly supportive of me and has told me many times that he would act in something that I directed, which is, like, I’m not worthy, basically.”

Howard then shared that she took Jackson’s words seriously and went right to Dave Filoni, one of the key creators behind modern Star Wars shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. She asked him directly if Mace Windu could still be alive: “And then I went straight to Dave Filoni and I was like, ‘So, let’s just talk about Mace Windu and where he is. Can we just talk about this? Because, is he dead? Is he?‘”

This isn’t the first time Jackson has brought up the idea of coming back. In fact, three years earlier, he was on the same podcast and talked about the exact same thing. He even said Howard was the only person he ever asked for help getting back into Star Wars:

“Definitely. There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning in Star Wars… The only person I’ve ever said that to about coming back was Bryce Dallas Howard… She’s like, ‘I love you, you’re amazing!’ So, ‘Put me back in there… Put me in coach, I’m ready!’ You know, I’ll learn to lightsaber left-handed.”

In a separate interview with Empire in February 2024, Jackson strongly insisted that Mace Windu isn’t dead, saying: “HE’S NOT DEAD!!!”

When asked how he would feel about a Mace Windu show on Disney+, similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jackson responded with only two words: “EVERYTHING, YES!!”

So there you have it, Jackson’s return to the franchise is now more likely than ever.
