‘Scrubs’ Is Back, Check Out the First Look at Second Season of the Revival Ahead of September Premiere

‘Scrubs‘ pulled off one of the more unexpected comebacks in recent television history earlier this year, returning to Sacred Heart Hospital more than 15 years after its original run ended. The revival brought back Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison as J.D., Elliot, and Turk, reuniting a cast that had spent over a decade apart from the roles that made them household names during the show’s original nine-season run.

That first revival season premiered on ABC back in February and quickly won over both critics and longtime fans, earning a TVLine reader grade of A across its nine-episode run. The season closed out with J.D., who had been working as a concierge doctor to spend more time with his kids, getting pulled back into Sacred Heart permanently after one of his patients was admitted, setting the stage for his full return alongside Turk, Carla, Elliot, and longtime mentor Dr. Cox.

That strong reception paid off two weeks later when ABC officially renewed the show for a second revival season, marking the eleventh season overall in the show’s history. This week, the network confirmed exactly when fans can expect the new episodes to arrive, releasing a first-look teaser alongside the announcement that the season will officially premiere Wednesday, September 30, with a special two-episode debut on ABC.

Following that premiere, new episodes will stream the next day on Hulu, continuing the same release pattern the show used throughout its first revival season. The premiere will air as part of a packed night for the network, sharing the September 30 slot with the Season 18 return of ‘Shark Tank.’

Braff, Faison, and Chalke are all confirmed to return as the show’s leads once again, joined by John C. McGinley reprising his role as Dr. Perry Cox. The revival’s newer additions, including Ava Bunn as Dr. Sam Tosh, are also expected back, continuing the blend of nostalgic and fresh faces that helped define the first season’s success.

According to the show’s official fan wiki, Season 11 is set to run 10 episodes and will conclude in winter 2027, giving fans a slightly longer run than the nine-episode debut season delivered earlier this year. That extended episode count suggests ABC is fully committed to giving the revival room to keep building out its new storylines.

This fall marks the first time since Season 7 that ‘Scrubs’ has received a fall premiere date, a shift that places the show alongside some of ABC’s biggest returning hits this season, including ‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘9-1-1: Nashville.’ That timing places ‘Scrubs’ in a much more competitive fall lineup compared to its February debut earlier this year, when it had comparatively less competition for viewer attention. ABC’s broader fall schedule also includes returning seasons of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘The Rookie,’ and ‘Will Trent,’ underscoring just how packed the network’s autumn slate has become.

With the full cast back in place and a slightly expanded episode count on the way, ‘Scrubs’ looks set to continue building on the goodwill its first revival season generated among both longtime fans and newcomers discovering Sacred Heart Hospital for the first time. Between the returning core cast and a stronger fall time slot, the series appears well-positioned to keep its momentum going into 2027.
