Sebastian Stan Set to Play Fan-Favorite Villain in ‘The Batman 2’

Sebastian Stan is officially joining the cast of “The Batman: Part 2,” and fans are excited to see him step into the iconic role of Harvey Dent, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Stan, who is best known for playing Bucky Barnes, also known as The Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, brings plenty of experience with superhero and comic book characters.

Details about Dent’s role in the film are still under wraps, and it’s unclear if he will be a friend or foe to Bruce Wayne. The sequel is directed by Matt Reeves and is set to begin filming next spring, aiming for an October 2027 release in theaters via Warner Bros. The original “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson, hit theaters in March 2022 and earned $772 million worldwide.

The new film already has a strong cast. Scarlett Johansson, an Academy Award nominee, recently joined, while Colin Farrell will reprise his role as Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin. Jeffrey Wright returns as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis will once again play Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan is expected to return as the Joker. Stan and Johansson have previously shared screen time in several Avengers films, and Stan also worked with Pattinson on Netflix’s 2020 movie “The Devil All the Time.”

Reeves has been carefully developing the sequel to build on the first film’s gritty and critically praised take on Gotham. Speaking at the Emmys, Reeves said, “It’s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson did.” The director also explained how secretive the production has been, describing how the script was stored in a locked pouch with a code to prevent leaks while Pattinson was in New York.

Although “The Batman: Part 2” isn’t officially part of the newly relaunched DC Universe, it is being produced under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios. This cinematic universe began last summer with “Superman,” which grossed $615 million globally. Upcoming releases include “Supergirl” in June 2026, “Clayface” in September 2026, the “Superman” sequel “Man of Tomorrow” in July 2027, and a new “Wonder Woman” project.

Sebastian Stan recently appeared in “Thunderbolts,” an MCU film that underperformed at the box office. His other notable roles include “I, Tonya” and “A Different Man.” He is also set to appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” and the thriller “Fjord.” DC Studios has not yet commented on his casting, and Stan is represented by CAA and B-Side Management. Deadline first reported the news of his involvement.

Stan’s addition as Harvey Dent is a big moment for fans who are eager to see how the sequel will expand the Dark Knight’s world. With a talented cast and Reeves’ vision, expectations are high for the next chapter.
