Filming on Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 5 has been paused following an alleged domestic violence incident involving star Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex, Dakota Mortensen, People and TMZ report.

According to a source speaking to People, the Hulu reality show has halted production while the situation is being resolved. “They are not filming. Taylor [Frankie Paul] has some pretty serious stuff happening regarding her past, and they will see what happens. Until that resolves, they are off,” the source said.

The Draper City Police Department confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that an active domestic assault investigation is ongoing between Paul and Mortensen. Authorities added that “allegations have been made in both directions” and that contact was made with both parties in late February.

TMZ obtained video footage from a 2023 incident in which Paul pled guilty to aggravated assault. The video reportedly shows Paul repeatedly attacking Mortensen, including throwing a metal barstool while a child was present.

A police report states that Mortensen’s 5-year-old daughter was struck during the altercation, resulting in a small injury to her head. Officers responded after a neighbor reported the noise, and the video was used as evidence in Paul’s case.

Paul was sentenced to three years’ probation, which, if completed without incident, will prevent the conviction from appearing on her record. Other charges, including domestic violence in the presence of a child and child abuse, were dropped as part of the plea deal.

Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen share one child, Ever True, born in March 2024, and Paul has two additional children from a previous marriage. The drama between them has been partially documented in previous seasons of Mormon Wives, where their turbulent relationship and legal issues were showcased.

A representative for Paul criticized Mortensen for releasing the video, claiming it was part of “a never-ending, desperate, attention-seeking, destructive campaign to harm Taylor without any regard for the consequences for their child.” They added, “Releasing an old and selectively edited video on their son’s birthday is a reprehensible attempt to distract from his own behavior. Thankfully, the public has seen this act before and knows who he is, and sadly, many will recognize this pattern of manipulation.”

The current pause in filming has reportedly left other cast members unwilling to continue until the situation surrounding Paul is resolved.

Paul is scheduled to star in the upcoming season of The Bachelorette, which premieres on ABC this Sunday. Both ABC and Mortensen have not responded to requests for comment.

This situation adds to the ongoing tension surrounding Paul’s personal life and her professional obligations. It remains unclear when production on Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will resume.

It’s a complex and troubling situation, showing how real-life issues can impact reality television production. What do you think about the filming pause and the legal issues surrounding Taylor Frankie Paul? Share your thoughts in the comments.
