Marvel Studios and Disney have quite a few projects lined up for development and production, despite the recent statements that they will lower the scope and output of their movies & shows due to somewhat undesirable results that their projects have gotten in the last several years. Still, there are quite a few projects that fans are certainly looking forward to and one of them is the sequel to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings.’

By December 2021, development had started on a sequel to ‘Shang-Chi’ with director and writer Cretton and star Liu expected to return. Liu expressed interest in exploring his character’s journey with the ten rings and his place in the MCU. However, by July 2023, Liu was uncertain about the sequel’s production timeline, mentioning it was slated for release after ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ which had been postponed to 2026 from 2025. He expected that more details would emerge soon.

Now according to Production Weekly a somewhat reliable source, ‘Shang-Chi 2’ should enter production in 2025.

The listing doesn’t contain any groundbreaking news. Much of it looks like it’s carried over from the first “Shang-Chi” movie, including the names of the producers: Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, and Asher Goldstein. However, Victoria Alonso leaving Marvel after some off-screen issues is a clue that this information might be outdated. It also mentions Cretton as the writer and director, and Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi, as part of the cast.

Now if Marvel Studios is definitely changing direction when it comes to releasing content Shang-Chi 2 is certainly a good strategy since the movie yielded good results the first time around. There’s also that detail with the timeline, ‘Shang-Chi 2’ was supposed to be released after ‘Avengers 5’, and with that movie being delayed to 2026, ‘Shang-Chi 2’ has plenty of time to make the cut.
