Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday. It’s going to be a huge superhero film bringing together many heroes from different Marvel stories. This film will be the fifth Avengers movie, following Avengers: Endgame from 2019. It is also the 39th movie in the MCU.

The movie’s story brings together the Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and the X-Men. They all have to work together to stop the villain Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., who is returning to the MCU in this new role.

Among the many stars in the cast are Simu Liu, who plays Shang-Chi, and James Marsden, who plays Cyclops in the Fox’s X-Men franchise, and according to a recent Instagram story, the actors are hard at work preparing for their respective roles:

Simu Liu’s character is a master martial artist and the holder of powerful Ten Rings. James Marsden returns as Cyclops, a mutant who can shoot powerful beams from his eyes and leads the X-Men team.

These characters are important because the movie is bringing together heroes from different parts of Marvel’s world, including the first time many X-Men characters have appeared alongside the Avengers.

Simu Liu has been a favorite since his breakout role as Shang-Chi in the earlier MCU film, and fans have been waiting for quite some time to see him on the big screen again, considering that the sequel to Shang-Chi has been in development for ages now, with no clear production date in sight.

James Marsden was rumored to have a role in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. The rumors started when the actor was spotted filming the Sonic movie near the MCU set. However his cameo never took place and fans were glad to see his name on one of the chairs for Doomsday.

Marvel announced this film at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. The Russo brothers returning as directors and Downey’s surprise casting as Doctor Doom was a big moment. But fans had mixed feelings; some were excited about Downey’s return, while others thought Marvel might be trying too hard to win fans back after some behind-the-scenes drama.

The filming started in April 2025 in England, at Pinewood Studios, with scenes also shot in Bahrain and other locations. This movie is part of the MCU’s Phase Six, with a release planned for December 18, 2026. There is also a follow-up movie called Secret Wars set for December 17, 2027.
