Marvel fans are counting down the days until Avengers: Doomsday, the studio’s biggest movie yet. With higher stakes, a massive cast, and plenty of surprises, the film is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases in the franchise.

One of the biggest shocks is the return of Robert Downey Jr., but this time, he’s not suiting up as Iron Man. Instead, he’s stepping into the role of Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most legendary villains.

Alongside Downey Jr., the movie will bring together a wide mix of characters, including Marvel’s newer heroes, returning favorites, and even the X-Men from the old Fox films. Simu Liu, who first played Shang-Chi in the MCU, is also coming back for this massive crossover.

In a solo interview with THE RIVER, Liu opened up a little about his experience filming the movie, though he admitted he couldn’t share too much. “I don’t think I can talk much, but how about shooting so far? Yes, I don’t have much to say, but I can tell you this much.”

Liu went on to explain how surreal the experience has been for him. “Every day is like a dream. You can go to work and work with people you admire. Some of them are actors I saw when I was a kid, even before I wanted to be an actor. I really can’t believe I’m working with these people.”

He admitted that while the excitement is huge, there’s also some nervousness involved. “As for emotions, there are very good feelings and excitement, and there are also mixed fears and anxiety. Because you are human. Being with great people can be anxious. But everyone is really nice, and I don’t feel like it’s ‘work’ every day.”

Liu had nothing but praise for his co-star Robert Downey Jr. “He is an integral part of Marvel’s success and has been in a number of films for years. He is truly kind, he is an inspiring man who treats me without distinction.”

He also teased what fans can expect from Downey Jr.’s new role as Doom. “Because he has played so many different roles, I think everyone will be blown away by his performance.”

Whatever happens, Liu’s words make it clear that Downey Jr.’s return will be one of the biggest moments in Marvel history.
