A big crossover has just become real in the gaming world. Solid Snake has officially been revealed as a permanent operator in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. The announcement came from Ubisoft ahead of the Six Invitational finals, and it marks the first time the game is stepping outside the Tom Clancy universe.

The iconic stealth hero from Metal Gear Solid is joining the roster after a long collaboration with Konami. Fans were surprised to learn that the character will be voiced by David Hayter, which makes the crossover feel even more authentic. Ubisoft said the two companies worked together for almost a year to make sure the character fits naturally into the game.

The move is a big moment for longtime fans because it finally puts Snake in the same universe as Sam Fisher, who previously joined the game. For years, players joked about the two stealth icons existing side by side, and now it has actually happened.

According to Ubisoft, Snake is designed as a stealth-focused attacker. Players will be able to use the Soliton Radar MKIII to detect nearby enemies, although activating it also warns opponents to keep the gameplay balanced. He also brings a suppressed TACIT .45 sidearm and a selection of primary weapons. His abilities allow players to gather intel, infiltrate buildings, and even use gear dropped by defeated enemies.

Creative director Joshua Mills shared his excitement about the collaboration. “Solid Snake is incredible. Just as a developer, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And I can’t stress that enough. It’s beyond Snake as well. It’s the fact that we can have Snake and Sam together. It’s like the most nerdy dream possible, and it’s amazing.”

He also explained Snake’s role in matches, saying, “As a player in the game and seeing how he fits in the Siege, I’m super excited about that because he kind of comes in as an in-game leader sort of operator. Amazing at getting intel, helping people get into the building, but then being essentially that infiltration specialist.”

The crossover does not stop with the operator. Ubisoft also teased a special Metal Gear themed Dual Front event that will feature characters like Meryl Silverburgh, Cyborg Ninja and Revolver Ocelot. More details about the mode have not been shared yet, but the trailer already got fans excited.

Joshua Mills also described how the partnership came together behind the scenes. “There was passion on both sides. Konami was super excited. They saw the natural fit and how it could organically work within Siege. Then we were off to the races. They provided us with a tremendous amount of resources to build from and draw from. Of course, we’re nerds. We had tons of resources because we love the franchise, too. And then there was this obsession from all of us to get it right and serve the character justice.”

The new operator will launch in Season One of Year 11. For many players, this crossover feels like one of the biggest moments in the history of the game.
