Marvel fans have spent weeks dissecting every frame Comic-Con footage has offered from ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ hunting for clues buried in costumes, cameos, and casting reveals. Few mysteries have proven as sticky as the film’s so-called Latverian Witches, a trio of masked figures working under Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Marvel has kept their identities deliberately hidden, rotating through different costume reveals at San Diego Comic-Con and letting speculation do the rest of the work. Names like Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Charlize Theron’s Clea, and Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter have all been floated as possibilities hiding beneath the masks.

Now another name has entered the conversation in a very specific way. Sophia Di Martino, who played Sylvie across both seasons of ‘Loki,’ recently liked an Instagram comment from a fan asking, “Latveria Witch? 👀🧡”

It’s a small gesture, but in the world of Marvel fandom, small gestures tend to carry outsized weight. A simple double-tap from an actor with ties to the franchise’s magic-user roster was more than enough to send speculation about her possible ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cameo into overdrive.

The theory isn’t coming out of nowhere. Sylvie is one of the MCU’s most formidable magic users, having wielded enchantment abilities throughout her run on ‘Loki’ while navigating a Multiversal storyline tied directly to the Time Variance Authority. That background lines her up neatly with the mysterious, magic-wielding aesthetic Marvel has built around the Latverian Witches.

There’s also history fueling the speculation. Di Martino posted a cryptic Instagram selfie back in May of 2025, captioned simply “playgrounds,” with her background deliberately obscured. Around the same time, her stunt double was reportedly spotted on a ‘Loki’-adjacent set in London, adding fuel to rumors that a ‘Doomsday’ appearance was already in motion long before this week’s Instagram like.

If Sylvie is indeed one of Doom’s witches, it would also raise compelling story questions. Sylvie’s actions at the end of ‘Loki’ season two are tied directly to the multiverse ripping open in the first place, since she was the one responsible for eliminating He Who Remains. That connection could give the MCU a reason to pull her toward Doom’s orbit, whether by manipulation or a darker alliance.

The stakes around ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ make even a single social media interaction feel significant. The film arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo in their first Marvel outing since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ It brings together heroes from the Avengers, the ‘Fantastic Four,’ and the X-Men for the first time on screen, with Downey Jr. stepping into the villain role of Doctor Doom after years as Iron Man.

With a cast that large and a plot Marvel has kept almost entirely under wraps, fans have leaned hard into any available breadcrumb, no matter how minor, to fill in the blanks. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is expected to play a significant role in the film, which only adds weight to the idea that Sylvie’s story could intersect with the larger crossover event.

Whether this Instagram like turns out to be a genuine hint or simply a coincidence that fandom has run wild with remains to be seen. Marvel has offered no official confirmation either way, and Di Martino herself hasn’t commented beyond the like itself.

Still, in a rollout defined by masked witches and manufactured mystery, it’s exactly the kind of moment that keeps ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ theories spinning until the movie actually arrives.

Do you think Sophia Di Martino is hiding behind one of the masks?
