Sophie Turner Reveals a Bold New Lara Croft Look in New ‘Tomb Raider’ Set Photos
New photos from the set of Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series show Sophie Turner in full action mode as Lara Croft. The images, taken during a night shoot in Surrey, capture Turner in the middle of a knife fight scene in heavy rain. The quiet wooded area was turned into a messy battleground with bright lights, mud, and intense fight choreography.
Turner was seen running through the trees with a knife in her hand. She looked bruised and worn out as the scene played out. At one point, she jumped onto the back of a motorbike to escape. The bike was driven by Martin Bobb-Semple, who plays Zip in the series. Zip is known to fans of the Tomb Raider games as Lara’s tech expert and close ally.
The series is being produced for Prime Video and is expected to premiere in 2027.
Turner has been training for this role for nearly a year. In an interview with ScreenRant, she spoke about how serious the preparation has been.
I can’t say much, but my preparation began in February [2025]. I’ve been training for a long time now, coming up on a year, and we’re going to start shooting in January. I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.

She also shared more details about her routine during an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show. We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week since February last year, of training. Yeah, so it’s been a lot.
She added, I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realised that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape.
Turner is widely known for playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. However, she explained that the role did not prepare her for this level of physical action. No, I was the cool queen who, like, didn’t have to do that. I also just kind of was the one that got beat up, not the one doing the beating. So, it’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.
The new set photos make it clear that this version of Lara Croft will be more tactical and intense. The focus appears to be on physical action and realism. Fans will have to wait until 2027 to see the full result when Tomb Raider debuts on Prime Video.
