South Park is back with its 28th season, and the show isn’t holding back. In the recent Halloween special, ‘The Woman in the Hat,’ the creators poked fun at their own series, following criticism of last season’s heavy political content.

In the episode, Stan’s father loses his job due to a government shutdown, forcing the family to move into Stan’s grandfather’s retirement home.

Frustrated, Stan bluntly admits, “Everyone knows it. South Park sucks now, and it’s because of all this political s***.” The line seems like a self-aware nod to Season 27’s controversial political storylines, showing that the show is willing to acknowledge its critics.

Trying to fix things, the kids invent a crypto meme called “South Park Sucks Now,” hoping it might save them from their situation in the retirement home. But the episode doesn’t stop there.

The story escalates into a spooky White House seance. Haunted by Melania, who lurks in the shadows under her hat, former President Donald Trump faces a supernatural reckoning. Pam Bondi, Brendan Carr, and Kristi Noem also appear at the gathering, while ghostly investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren are summoned to figure out the strange happenings.

Meanwhile, Kyle’s cousin finds himself in trouble when he tries to convince Don Jr. to approve the crypto scheme. His attempt backfires, landing him in arrest by the end of the chaotic episode.

This latest installment of South Park shows that the creators are willing to make fun of themselves while still delivering their signature satirical style. By embracing humor about their own “suckiness,” they manage to keep the show fresh and unpredictable.
