Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creative minds behind the long-running animated show “South Park,” have reportedly signed a huge five-year deal with Paramount to stream their series worldwide. The Los Angeles Times reports this deal is worth $1.5 billion in total, which breaks down to about $300 million a year.

Variety confirmed that a deal has been made but didn’t share the exact details. Paramount hasn’t commented publicly, likely because the agreement isn’t completely finalized yet.

This new streaming deal comes after some serious tension between Parker, Stone, and Paramount. The creators have accused Paramount’s incoming president, Jeff Shell, of messing with their contract talks with Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there was once a plan for a $3 billion, ten-year deal between Parker, Stone, and Paramount Global. However, the company Skydance, which is in the middle of buying Paramount, reportedly didn’t agree to that deal.

During this drama, the premiere of “South Park” Season 27 was pushed back by two weeks to July 23. Parker and Stone expressed their frustration on the show’s official Twitter account, writing: “This merger is a s**** show and it’s f***** up ‘South Park.’ We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”

The deal will finally bring regular episodes of “South Park” to Paramount+ in the U.S. for the first time. This is a big change because HBO Max, part of Warner Bros. Discovery, used to have exclusive streaming rights for the show. Paramount+ had only shown a few special “South Park” events before. That HBO Max agreement ended last month.

This announcement comes just before Season 27 starts airing on Comedy Central on July 23. Parker and Stone will also be making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con around this time.

Besides the streaming deal, Parker and Stone are working on a new contract with Paramount to keep making new episodes for Comedy Central after their current deal ends in 2027. Their last contract, signed in 2021, was worth $900 million and covered both the main show and special episodes made for Paramount+.

Getting exclusive streaming rights to “South Park” is a big win for Paramount+ as it competes with other streaming giants like Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max. This deal is happening while Skydance’s takeover of Paramount is still ongoing.

Since its debut in 1997, “South Park” has grown from a simple, cut-out animation show to a cultural icon known for its bold satire and sharp commentary on politics, pop culture, and everyday life.

This update comes from reports by the Los Angeles Times, and Variety.
