Tom Holland has spent nearly a decade building his version of Peter Parker into one of the most beloved corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Every solo outing has arrived with sky-high expectations, and every time, the actor has found a way to add a new emotional layer to the wall-crawler.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ picks up four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ with Peter now living in total isolation after voluntarily erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loves. He’s crime-fighting full-time in a city that no longer knows his name, and the pressure of that lonely double life is pushing him toward a strange physical transformation even as a dangerous new threat emerges.

Now that the film has landed in theaters, Rotten Tomatoes has posted the numbers, and they’re the kind studios dream about. As of this writing, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ holds a 91% Tomatometer score from 198 reviews, paired with a 98% Popcornmeter rating built from more than 500 verified audience ratings.

That combination puts the film in rare territory. Landing above 90% with both critics and moviegoers is something even strong blockbusters rarely manage, and it places ‘Brand New Day’ comfortably alongside the rest of the Holland-led trilogy in terms of overall goodwill.

For context, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ closed out its run with a 93% critics’ score and a 97% audience score, while ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ settled at 92% with critics and 87% with audiences. ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ landed at 91% and 95%, respectively. Measured against that track record, ‘Brand New Day’ is holding its own, and its audience number is currently outpacing every other film in the franchise.

Reviewers have generally praised the film’s more grounded, character-driven approach, moving away from the multiverse-heavy plotting that defined the previous chapter. Much of the critical conversation has centered on Holland’s performance, with several reviewers calling it his most mature and emotionally layered take on the character to date, alongside praise for the film’s action sequences and its willingness to let Peter’s isolation actually sting.

Not every reaction has been glowing. A handful of reviews have pointed to pacing issues and a villain arc that some found undercooked, arguing the film occasionally leans too hard into its somber tone at the expense of momentum. Still, those critiques have been the minority voice in an otherwise strongly positive rollout.

The cast surrounding Holland has also drawn attention, with Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Sadie Sink rounding out Peter’s fractured support system, while Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk bring added MCU firepower into the mix. On the villain side, the film introduces Michael Mando’s Scorpion and Marvin Jones III’s Tombstone, giving Peter no shortage of new threats to contend with while he’s already running on empty.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for steering ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,’ has been credited with keeping the film’s tone consistent even as it juggles a packed roster of characters. That balancing act appears to be resonating with exactly the crowd Marvel needed on its side: the ticket-buying audience walking out of theaters this week.

With the Popcornmeter still climbing and the film only just reaching wide release, there’s a real chance both numbers shift in the days ahead as more reviews and ratings roll in. For now, though, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is proving that Peter Parker’s loneliest chapter yet might also be one of his most crowd-pleasing.
