‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Still Making Money After Rewriting the Box Office Record Books
Most blockbusters peak in the first few weekends and then coast. Sony and Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ did the opposite, setting records at launch and then refusing to leave the charts. Months into its run, the web-slinger is still collecting tickets.
Tom Holland’s latest outing as Peter Parker opened on July 31 and quickly became the story of the summer. It kicked off with a $360 million domestic debut, beating the $357 million opening of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to claim the biggest opening weekend in box office history. Globally, it launched to $932 million, the second-biggest opening ever behind ‘Endgame.’
Now the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ box office total has climbed to roughly $2.516 billion worldwide, still growing against a $225 million budget. That makes it the third-highest-grossing film of all time, behind only ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ A forecast chart tracking the run projects it could finish near $2.55 billion.

The film’s pace has been historic from the start. It reached $1 billion worldwide in just 6 days, the second-fastest in history behind ‘Endgame.’ It then hit $2 billion after its third weekend, becoming the eighth film ever to reach that mark.
It also became the fastest movie to reach $700 million, $800 million and $900 million domestically. Sony confirmed it passed $800 million in just 19 days. Along the way it overtook ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ as Sony’s highest-grossing release of all time.
The biggest milestone came in September. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ passed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to become the highest-grossing movie ever at the domestic box office, eclipsing a record that had stood for 10 years at $936.66 million. It reached that mark 47 days after release.
It has since grown to about $955 million domestically, with roughly $1.55 billion coming from overseas. It is only the second film ever to surpass $900 million in North America. Those numbers also make it the highest-grossing Spider-Man film, the highest-grossing solo superhero movie and the highest-grossing film of 2026.

The film is now one of only 3 movies to pass $2.5 billion worldwide, alongside ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ ‘Avatar’ still sits comfortably ahead at more than $2.9 billion, and ‘Endgame’ is getting a re-release that has widened its lead. The prospect of ‘Brand New Day’ surpassing ‘Endgame’ as the highest-grossing MCU film has faded as its weekly totals slow.
That said, Sony says the numbers have pushed Peter Parker past every other character on the all-time chart, with a cumulative $17.5 billion worldwide. Holland, who also starred in ‘Endgame,’ is now credited as the highest-grossing actor of all time. Kevin Feige has attributed the film’s success to the enduring appeal of Peter Parker and Holland’s star power.

The result is a needed win for Marvel Studios, which endured a rough 2025 at the box office with misses such as ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps.’ Coming on top of a summer that was already record-setting, it also signals that audiences still turn out in huge numbers for the right superhero movie. Critics were largely positive, praising Holland’s performance, the action sequences and a more mature, character-driven story.
The film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and music by Michael Giacchino. The cast includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei and Mark Ruffalo. It remains Cretton’s and Zendaya’s top-grossing movie.
Spider-Man has also had company at the top. Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is the second-biggest film of the year, and the 2 titles have powered one of the strongest years in recent box office history. Yet few releases have shown the kind of staying power that ‘Brand New Day’ has, still adding to its total while rivals fade.
For a character who has been swinging through theaters for more than 20 years, the numbers are a reminder of how much life is left in the franchise.
What do you think of Spider-Man's historic run?
