‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Beat ‘No Way Home’ at the Box Office
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is wasting no time making noise at the box office. The latest Tom Holland-led Marvel movie has already passed the Thursday preview total of Spider-Man: No Way Home, putting it on track for a huge opening weekend.
According to Deadline, Brand New Day has earned more than $50 million from its domestic previews. That puts it ahead of No Way Home, which made $50 million from Thursday previews when it opened in December 2021.
That is a major early win for the new Spider-Man movie. No Way Home went on to have one of the biggest openings in box office history, bringing in $260.1 million during its first three days in North America. It currently sits behind Avengers: Endgame, which opened to $357.1 million domestically.
Brand New Day could be heading toward that same territory. Deadline reports that some sources believe the movie’s preview total could climb even higher, with some estimates suggesting it may even pass Endgame’s $60 million preview record. We should have a clearer number once the full Thursday results are reported.
The movie has also been helped by strong advance ticket sales. Reports put Brand New Day’s advance sales at around $80 million, an impressive figure for a movie with a reported $225 million net production budget.
The preview number is even more notable when you look at the bigger picture. Brand New Day has now become the biggest preview performer for a Sony movie and the strongest preview performer of the post-pandemic era. It has also moved into the top three biggest domestic preview openings ever, behind Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

There is another interesting detail here. Brand New Day is doing all of this without access to domestic IMAX screens. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey currently has the IMAX screens locked up, leaving Sony to find other ways to sell the movie as a premium big-screen experience.
That does not seem to be hurting Spider-Man so far. The movie is also getting strong reactions from audiences. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Brand New Day currently has a 98% audience score, which would make it the highest audience score among the nine live-action Spider-Man movies. Its critics score is also sitting at 90% Certified Fresh, just below No Way Home’s 93%.
The early numbers have already pushed some industry estimates higher. NRG reportedly had the movie opening around $195 million domestically, while exhibitors and tracking services such as Greenlight Analytics have suggested the film could potentially reach somewhere between $260 million and $300 million.
Those numbers are still estimates, so they could change once the weekend plays out. Still, Brand New Day has already made one thing clear: audiences are showing up for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in a very big way.
The movie is now facing a much bigger question. Can it keep the momentum going through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and challenge the biggest opening weekend records ever?
For now, Spider-Man is swinging into theaters with a very strong start, and the box office is already looking like one of the biggest stories of the summer.
