‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Made Box Office History Again
Tom Holland’s fourth outing as the wall-crawler has spent the summer doing something few blockbusters ever manage: breaking one box office record and immediately setting up another. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ arrived in theaters July 31 and has barely slowed down since, racking up milestone after milestone on its way toward becoming one of the biggest films in franchise history.
The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed sequel picks up 4 years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ with Peter Parker living in isolation after erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loves. That emotional gamble has clearly paid off with audiences, who have kept ticket sales remarkably steady even weeks into the film’s theatrical run.
Now the numbers have caught up with the hype in a big way. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has crossed $900 million at the domestic box office, becoming just the second film in history to do so and the fastest ever to reach that mark, hitting the milestone in 36 days compared to the 50 days it took 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to get there.
The film grossed $1.6 million on its fifth Thursday in theaters, a drop of just 41.9% from the previous week’s Thursday total. For comparison, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ pulled in $1.1 million at the same point in its run and saw a steeper 40.3% decline, showing just how strong Spidey’s legs have been deep into its release.
By the end of that Thursday, ‘Brand New Day’ had reached a running domestic total of $899.8 million, putting it 92 million dollars ahead of where ‘Endgame’ stood at the same point in its own theatrical run. That gap is even more striking considering ‘Brand New Day’ had only opened 3 million dollars ahead of ‘Endgame’ to begin with.
That kind of staying power has turned a strong opening into a genuine box office phenomenon. The film’s audience turnout has remained consistent even as students head back to school, a period that typically slows moviegoing considerably.
Audiences have backed up those numbers with their reactions as well. ‘Brand New Day’ earned an A grade from CinemaScore, placing it alongside ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ in the franchise’s ranking, just below the A+ scores earned by ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’
With $900 million now in the rearview mirror, attention has shifted to an even bigger prize. Industry estimates suggest ‘Brand New Day’ is on pace for a final domestic run somewhere between 950 million and 960 million dollars.

That range matters because it would be enough to overtake ‘The Force Awakens,’ whose $936.6 million domestic total has stood as the highest-grossing film of all time in the U.S. for 11 years. No film has come close to threatening that record in the years since the 2015 Star Wars release, making this run especially notable for box office watchers.
The milestone caps off a run that has included the biggest domestic opening weekend ever, the highest-grossing first week in box office history, and a swift climb past 2 billion dollars globally. With Resident Evil not opening for another 2 weeks, ‘Brand New Day’ looks set to hold onto the top spot at the box office for a while longer.
Whatever happens over the coming weeks, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has already cemented itself as one of the defining box office stories of the year.
Will 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' become the highest-grossing movie ever at the U.S. box office?
