‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Posted an IMDb Score That Has Fans Doing a Double Take

Superhero fatigue has been the dominant conversation around Marvel for the past few years, with even devoted fans admitting they’ve grown pickier about which releases actually earn their time and money. Against that backdrop, Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Spider-Man had a lot riding on it.

That emotional throughline appears to be exactly what’s resonating with viewers. Critics have echoed similar sentiments, with reviews circulating that call it among the best Spider-Man films to date, praising how the movie treats Peter’s loneliness and personal relationships with the same weight most blockbusters reserve for city-leveling stakes.

It’s not a film without its critics, though. Some reviewers have noted that the story’s stakes feel comparatively small by Marvel standards, and that the film leans further into introspection than spectacle compared to Holland’s previous three outings.

Still, the overwhelming reaction so far suggests that trade-off is working in the film’s favor rather than against it. Fans invested in Peter’s arc since ‘No Way Home’ seem to be responding strongly to watching him wrestle with the consequences of his own sacrifice, rather than simply moving past it the way franchise films often do.

An 8.2 IMDb average this early in a film’s release window is no small thing, especially for a franchise that’s had its share of ups and downs on user review platforms in recent years. Whether that number holds steady as more votes roll in over the coming days remains to be seen, but for now, it’s hard to argue that ‘Brand New Day’ hasn’t struck a nerve with the people actually watching it.

For a character who’s spent his entire cinematic history being defined by how much he sacrifices for others, watching audiences embrace his loneliest chapter yet feels like a fitting full-circle moment.
