Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has spent every week since its release rewriting box office history across nearly every major territory it’s played in, and India has proven no exception to that trend. Sony and Marvel’s latest Tom Holland outing arrived in Indian theaters on July 30, a full day ahead of its global release, immediately signaling just how much confidence the studio had in the film’s international drawing power.

That confidence has been fully justified in the weeks since. The film opened to the biggest four-day Hollywood debut in Indian box office history, grossing $35.4 million across 17,250 screens nationwide, with India’s largest cinema chain, PVR Inox, alone welcoming nearly 3 million moviegoers at 60 percent average occupancy during that opening stretch.

That momentum has now carried the film to a milestone few Hollywood releases ever reach in the Indian market. After just 11 days in theaters, ‘Brand New Day’ has officially surpassed James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time in India, according to Variety. The film’s gross collections have climbed past ₹497 crore, well beyond the ₹484.36 crore that ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ earned across its entire theatrical run since 2022.

That achievement also makes ‘Brand New Day’ the first Hollywood release ever to enter India’s ₹400 crore net club, with net earnings currently sitting at ₹415.45 crore following its second weekend. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ now sits in third place on the all-time list with ₹442.3 crore gross, trailing both ‘Brand New Day’ and the now-dethroned ‘Avatar’ sequel.

What makes this milestone particularly striking is the speed at which it happened. ‘Brand New Day’ reached the top of India’s all-time Hollywood chart faster than any of the eleven previous films to hold that distinction, cementing itself as just the twelfth Hollywood release ever to qualify among India’s all-time grossers.

The film’s second weekend alone brought in ₹80.7 crore net, marking the biggest second weekend any Hollywood film has ever recorded in the Indian market. A language breakdown of its earnings shows just how broad that appeal has been, with English-language screenings contributing ₹217 crore, Hindi dubbing adding ₹149 crore, and Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions rounding out the remaining collections.

India’s box office surge mirrors the film’s performance nearly everywhere else it’s played. ‘Brand New Day’ already holds the record for the biggest opening weekend in box office history at $360 million domestically, the biggest single day and preview totals ever recorded, and reached $1 billion worldwide in just six days, a pace second only to ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

Notably, the film achieved its India milestone despite losing IMAX screens to fellow Tom Holland release ‘The Odyssey,’ Christopher Nolan’s own record-breaking epic that opened in India on July 17 and has grossed nearly ₹200 crore in its own right. With both films continuing to perform strongly simultaneously, Holland has effectively dominated India’s summer box office landscape from two entirely different franchises at once.

With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continuing to add new milestones by the day, its India performance stands as yet another chapter in what’s already shaping up to be one of the most historic theatrical runs in recent memory.

Will Spider-Man: Brand New Day keep breaking box office records in India?
