‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Here — Did Marvel Deliver?

The first reviews for Spider-Man: Brand New Day are finally here, and the early reaction suggests Marvel may have another successful Spider-Man movie on its hands.

The upcoming Tom Holland-led film has received a strong score on Rotten Tomatoes, giving fans a first look at how critics are responding before its theatrical release.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently holds a 90% Tomatometer score based on 73 critic reviews. While some reviewers pointed out issues with the movie, the overall response has been positive, with many praising its story, action, and focus on Peter Parker’s journey.

The film serves as the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland and follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. This time, Peter Parker is starting over after the world has forgotten his identity. The movie explores a more independent version of Spider-Man as he protects New York while dealing with new threats and changes to his powers.

Several critics highlighted that the film feels different from previous Spider-Man adventures. Alexander Zalben of Comic Book Club gave the movie a Fresh rating and praised how it balances multiple story elements. He described it as “a brand new day for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise, one that’s full of heart and action.” He also noted that the movie manages to handle many different ideas while keeping Spider-Man at the center.

Joey Morona of The Cleveland Plain Dealer also gave the film a positive review, saying that while it may not reach the same level as Spider-Man: No Way Home, it could be a stronger overall movie. Morona wrote that “Brand New Day might not reach the dizzying highs of No Way Home, but it’s arguably the more complete movie.”

Other reviewers praised the film for taking Spider-Man in a more grounded direction. George Simpson from Daily Express gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars, saying the shift away from the huge stakes of No Way Home allows the story to focus more on character. He added that there is still plenty of the action and excitement fans expect from Marvel.

Not every review was completely positive. Odie Henderson from The Boston Globe gave the film a Rotten score, criticizing Marvel’s focus on setting up future projects and fan service. Henderson wrote that “far too much time is spent in ‘SM: BND’ on introducing characters or fan service situations that will be continued in future installments.”

The movie has also received strong praise for its performances, especially Sadie Sink’s role. Zach Pope gave the film a perfect score and called it a meaningful Spider-Man story, saying “Nearly every character serves Parker’s journey, making every moment feel purposeful.” He also added that Sink “might just steal the entire movie.”

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Brand New Day brings back Holland as Peter Parker along with Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.

With a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score and mostly positive early reactions, Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be off to a strong start. The movie arrives as Marvel continues building toward the next phase of the MCU, while also giving fans a new version of Spider-Man who is finally standing on his own.
