‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Surpasses ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ to Become 5th Highest-Grossing MCU Film

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has spent every day since its July 31 release adding another headline to an already staggering box office run. The film, which continues Tom Holland’s journey as Peter Parker following the aftermath of a devastating memory-erasing spell, has become one of the fastest-moving success stories in recent Marvel Cinematic Universe history.

That momentum showed no signs of slowing in its second week, with the film crossing $1.32 billion worldwide in just nine days of release. Along the way, it’s already outpaced global blockbusters like ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Frozen,’ and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,’ cementing its place among the all-time top twenty-five highest-grossing films.

Now the movie has hit another significant milestone, officially surpassing the total theatrical gross of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’ That achievement pushes ‘Brand New Day’ into fifth place on the list of highest-grossing MCU films of all time, overtaking a movie that once dominated headlines of its own with a $1.4 billion global haul back in 2015.

Climbing past ‘Age of Ultron’ puts ‘Brand New Day’ within striking distance of the franchise’s true heavyweights, with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ at $1.34 billion and ‘Black Panther’ at $1.35 billion both sitting just ahead of it on the all-time list. Given the pace the film has maintained since its debut, closing that gap and climbing even higher in the MCU rankings appears to be only a matter of time.

The film’s success at home in North America has been just as remarkable as its global performance. ‘Brand New Day’ became the first movie ever to cross $500 million domestically within its first week, while also posting the second-biggest non-holiday Thursday of all time behind only ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.’

That kind of domestic dominance has put the film on track to challenge one of Hollywood’s most enduring records. Industry analysts have pointed out that ‘Brand New Day’ is now positioned to potentially surpass ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ which has held the all-time domestic box office record with its $936.6 million total since 2015.

Much of the conversation around ‘Brand New Day’ has inevitably drawn comparisons to ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ the film that still holds the record for the biggest global debut in history at $1.224 billion. While ‘Brand New Day’ fell short of that specific mark, it still managed to secure the second-biggest global opening of all time, outpacing every other film in franchise history aside from Endgame itself.

The film also became the fastest movie ever to reach $400 million domestically and the second-fastest to cross $1 billion worldwide, trailing only Endgame in both categories. That level of consistency across multiple box office benchmarks suggests ‘Brand New Day’ isn’t just riding a strong opening weekend, but sustaining genuine momentum well into its theatrical run.
