‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Villain Board Just Teased the MCU’s Next Big Anti-Hero

Marvel fans have made a habit of pausing, rewinding and zooming into every frame of a new release, hunting for the tiny details that hint at what’s coming next. That kind of forensic attention has paid off repeatedly with the studio’s recent output, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has proven to be one of its richest playgrounds yet for background Easter eggs.

Much of that comes down to meticulous production design rather than dialogue. Set decoration teams have spent years rewarding the most obsessive viewers with props and clutter that quietly expand the world beyond what’s actually said onscreen, and this film leans into that tradition harder than most.

At the center of it all is Peter Parker’s Villain Tracker Board, a prop that only appears briefly onscreen but has since been revealed in full detail, unpacking years of the character’s crime-fighting history in a single cluttered wall. Buried among its many newspaper clippings and case files is one item that has fans particularly excited: a report referencing a string of art gallery thefts, seemingly planting the seeds for Black Cat’s eventual arrival in the MCU.

That detail sits alongside a dense collection of other references scattered across the board, ranging from well-known Spider-Man villains to far deeper comic book cuts most casual viewers likely won’t recognize. Some entries point to established threats, while others, like nods to Dr. Harrow and the Foolkiller, reference characters more commonly associated with other corners of the Marvel universe entirely.

According to GeekVibesNation, prop master Barry Dixon specifically crafted fictional Daily Bugle articles to populate the board, a workaround designed to reference J. Jonah Jameson and his paper without needing the character to physically appear in the film. It’s the kind of layered worldbuilding that has become a signature of Marvel’s approach to background props, letting the story imply far more than what fits into the runtime.

Peter’s board isn’t the only conspiracy wall featured in the film either. Ned Leeds keeps his own separate tracker, narrowing down Spider-Man’s secret identity to two suspects, former classmate Flash Thompson and onetime teacher Mr. Harrington, offering a lighter, more comedic counterpoint to the grim tone of Peter’s own crime-solving wall.

Beyond the board itself, ‘Brand New Day’ packs its opening montage with a parade of classic Spider-Man villains, including Tombstone, Boomerang, Tarantula and Scorpion, all appearing in quick succession as Peter recounts years of solo crime-fighting since the world forgot his identity. It’s a sequence built almost entirely around fan recognition, rewarding longtime readers with characters rarely given screen time in live-action before.

Given how much of the board’s content remains only partially legible, fans and outlets alike suspect there are still more references waiting to be decoded as higher-resolution images continue to circulate. For a franchise entry already praised for feeling more “lived-in” than previous Spider-Man films, the villain board has become a treasure map for what might come next in Peter Parker’s corner of the MCU.

Whether Black Cat’s tease pays off in a future project remains to be seen, but the hint alone has been enough to send fans into speculation mode.
