‘Star Wars: Visions – The Ninth Jedi’ Teaser Reveals a New Chapter in the Jedi Legacy
The Star Wars universe is returning to one of its most unique animated stories with Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi. A first teaser for the upcoming series has been released, giving fans a new look at the next chapter of the popular anime-inspired Star Wars project.
The Ninth Jedi will be the first limited series released under the new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner. The show will continue the story from the original short film “The Ninth Jedi,” which was part of the first volume of Star Wars: Visions, as well as “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” from Volume 3.
According to information shared by Lucasfilm, the upcoming series is being written by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Production I.G, the Japanese animation studio behind the original Ninth Jedi story. The project is expected to expand the world introduced in the short films and explore more of its characters, conflicts, and connection to the Jedi legacy.
Star Wars: Visions first launched as a way for creators around the world to tell new stories in the Star Wars universe without being limited by the franchise’s usual rules. Instead of following the traditional visual style of Star Wars animation, each short film brought a different anime-inspired approach from various studios.
Lucasfilm described Star Wars: Visions as a project created “through the lens of the world’s best anime creators,” allowing filmmakers to bring their own ideas and styles while still keeping the emotional themes that make Star Wars recognizable.
The original “The Ninth Jedi” became one of the most popular shorts from the first volume. The story introduced a future where the Jedi Order was almost gone and followed a young woman named Kara, who becomes connected to a mysterious group of lightsaber makers and Force users. The short stood out because of its fresh take on the Jedi and its focus on rebuilding hope.
With The Ninth Jedi becoming a fan favorite, Lucasfilm decided to continue the story in a longer format. The new limited series will give creators more time to develop the characters and explore the world beyond what was possible in a short film.
The first episode of Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi will receive an early preview during a First Look panel at the 2026 Anime Expo convention on July 2, 2026. The full series is expected to arrive in summer 2026.
The Star Wars: Visions project has continued to grow since its debut, with later volumes featuring animation from studios around the world. Each entry has offered a different interpretation of the galaxy far, far away, giving creators the freedom to experiment with new stories, designs, and characters.

While many Star Wars projects focus on familiar characters and timelines, Visions has allowed the franchise to explore completely new ideas. The Ninth Jedi series will continue that approach by expanding a story that fans have already connected with while bringing a new anime-inspired chapter to the Star Wars universe.
