The 2025 horror movie Together is making waves with its mix of supernatural and body horror. This film is the first time director Michael Shanks has taken the helm, and it stars real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie. They play a pair who move to the countryside and soon find themselves affected by a strange force that causes terrifying changes to their bodies.

Together had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2025. It was later released in the U.S. by Neon on July 30, and in Australia by Kismet Movies the following day. The movie earned mostly positive reviews from critics and made $12.2 million at the box office, against a budget of $17 million.

The story follows Millie Wilson, who lands a job teaching elementary school English and moves to the countryside with her boyfriend Tim, an aspiring musician. Tim has been emotionally distant after losing his parents. Before they leave, Millie proposes to Tim at a farewell party, but he hesitates, which leaves her feeling embarrassed.

During a hike near their new home, they get caught in a storm and take shelter in a cave. Tim drinks from a pool inside and suddenly remembers a traumatic moment from his childhood involving his mother and father. The next morning, the couple discovers their legs are partially stuck together, but after pulling apart, they brush it off.

However, Tim begins to feel physically drawn to Millie in strange ways, which confuses them both. Later, Millie’s coworker Jamie visits to welcome them, and they share their cave story. Jamie reveals that the cave was once a New Age church before it collapsed.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds a strong 90% approval rating from 169 critics. The site’s consensus says, “Given an extra sinew of authenticity by the metatextual casting of Alison Brie and Dave Franco at the top of their game, Together is a body horror that’s as emotionally sticky as it is memorably gnarly.” Metacritic gives it a score of 75 out of 100 based on 35 reviews, which means the film received generally favorable opinions.

One of the most notable endorsements came from horror legend Stephen King. On Threads, King praised the performances of Franco and Brie, calling them “great” and “brave.” He added that the movie works because it makes you care about the characters, which is essential in horror. King’s post reads, “Dave Franco and Alison Brie are great—and brave—in TOGETHER. Horror movies work when you care about the people. This one works.”

Overall, Together stands out as a fresh and emotional take on the horror genre, blending unsettling body horror with a story that really connects with its audience.
