“I think that there is, and has always been, a sort of wary respect between the two of them,” Toussaint said in an interview with ScreenRant. “I think for Corlys, he sees Daemon as he’s clearly a formidable warrior and sometimes a decent tactician, or if not a little bit reckless. And I don’t think that that’s changed.”

Toussaint went on to explain that the season finale’s climactic Tumbleton scene, where Corlys physically pulls Daemon out of the fighting, reveals something deeper about how Corlys views his fellow Targaryen loyalist. He suggested Daemon may have been seeking his own death in that moment, and that Corlys recognized it. “I believe that he saves Daemon from himself. I think Daemon is looking to die in that scene,” Toussaint said in an interview with ScreenRant, noting that this is his own interpretation rather than something confirmed by the show’s creative team.

That mutual respect, according to Toussaint, has deep roots stretching all the way back to the show’s earliest episodes. He pointed to a moment in season one, episode two, when Corlys persuades Daemon to join him in battle, as an early example of the bond forming between the two characters, even as their motivations and methods remained fundamentally different.

Looking ahead, Toussaint suggested that the triangle between Corlys, Daemon, and Rhaenyra is becoming increasingly complicated as each character’s priorities start to diverge.
