‘Stranger Things’ Fans Panic as Duffer Brothers Hint at a Shocking Season 5 Ending
Stranger Things fans are once again worried about Steve Harrington after a recent TV appearance by the show’s creators sparked fresh fear about the final season.
The moment happened during Matt and Ross Duffer’s visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The brothers took part in a lighthearted segment where they used Funko POP! figures to tease what’s coming in Season 5. While it was meant to be playful, one small action quickly caught viewers’ attention.
During the game, Ross Duffer moved different character figures around as Fallon reacted. Barb’s figure was placed on the floor first, reminding fans of her early death in Season 1. Fallon even joked that she could somehow come back. Other figures were then arranged in strange ways, with Eleven placed in water and Will stacked under Vecna.
The mood changed when Steve Harrington’s figure came up. Ross placed it near the edge of the table and then pushed it off. The studio audience immediately gasped and screamed. Fallon reacted by joking that this might be how the show ends before showing a short clip from the upcoming season.

Clips of the moment spread fast online, and fans quickly shared their thoughts. Some believe the Duffer Brothers were just messing with viewers and trying to throw people off. Others think it could be a real hint about Steve’s fate in the final episodes. Many pointed out that the show has a history of fake-outs and emotional twists.
Steve, played by Joe Keery, has grown into one of the most loved characters on the show. Because of that, fans have long feared he might not survive the ending. The Tonight Show moment only made those fears louder.
Netflix has confirmed that Stranger Things Season 5 will be split into two parts. Volume 2 arrives on December 25, with the final episode airing on December 31. Until then, fans are left guessing what the Duffer Brothers really meant.
