The end is coming for Hawkins, and fans now have a first look at how it will all play out. Netflix has released the first teaser for the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things.” This marks the final chapter of the popular sci-fi show that started back in 2016.

The main cast is returning one last time. Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Maya Hawke, and Jamie Campbell Bower will all be back. New faces are joining too, with Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux stepping into the story. Netflix confirmed this in their official announcement.

The teaser was shown on Stranger Things Day, the yearly event that celebrates the show. This day marks the anniversary of when Will Byers first disappeared in the show’s very first episode, way back in 1983. That episode was called “The Vanishing of Will Byers.”

Now, the final season brings another mystery with an episode titled “The Vanishing Of…” but the teaser didn’t reveal whose name will complete the title.

The story this time jumps to the year 1987. Hawkins is in trouble after the Rifts opened, and the town looks worse than ever. According to the official Netflix synopsis, “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished – his whereabouts and plans unknown.”

Things get even harder for the group because the government has put Hawkins under military lockdown and is hunting Eleven again, which forces her back into hiding. With the anniversary of Will’s first disappearance coming up, the feeling of fear returns. Vecna is still out there. The final fight is coming. And as the summary says, “To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone – the full party – standing together, one last time.”

There will be eight episodes in total, Netflix confirmed. Episode titles include “The Crawl,” “The Turnbow Trap,” “Sorcerer,” “Shock Jock,” “Escape from Camazotz,” “The Bridge,” and the final episode, “The Rightside Up.” A mysterious second episode called “The Vanishing Of…” is also included, but fans don’t yet know who the new missing person will be.

The Duffer Brothers, who created the show, said this season will be huge. At Netflix’s “Next on Netflix” event, Ross Duffer said it’s “the biggest and most ambitious” season yet. Another big surprise is that Frank Darabont, the director of “The Shawshank Redemption,” came out of an 11-year retirement to direct two of the episodes.

Since its first season in 2016, “Stranger Things” has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows. Season 4 alone had over 140 million views around the world. The series has won more than 70 awards, including Emmys and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Drama Ensemble, with over 230 total nominations.

Netflix also shared when fans can start watching. Volume 1 of Season 5 will stream starting November 26. Volume 2 will be released on Christmas Day. The final episode, which will end the story for good, will drop on New Year’s Eve.
