‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Season 2 Is Bringing Back Familiar Faces With a New Trailer

The ‘Stranger Things‘ universe has spent the past decade proving it can stretch far beyond its original live-action format, and the animated spinoff ‘Tales From ’85’ has quickly become one of the more surprising extensions of that world. Set between the original series’ second and third seasons, the show has given fans a chance to revisit younger versions of Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Will, Lucas, and Max in a completely different visual language.

That spinoff has moved unusually fast by ‘Stranger Things’ standards. After premiering in April, Netflix confirmed a second season renewal just five days later, sparing fans the typically agonizing wait between installments that the mothership series has become notorious for. Season 2 is now officially set to arrive Sept. 17, bringing with it a new trailer and a wave of fresh plot details.

Alongside that release date, Netflix confirmed a notable structural shift for the new season. According to What’s on Netflix, Season 2 is seeing its episode count reduced from 10 episodes down to 8, a change from the first season’s full ten-episode run. The official logline reads: “With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, mysterious ‘ghostly’ apparitions and a swarm of hate sprites are wreaking havoc around Hawkins. The HIC must uncover the truth behind these paranormal events before a new gate to the Upside Down is ripped open.”

Picking up directly after the Season 1 finale, the new episodes follow the Hawkins Investigators Club as they return to arcade gaming, HIC missions, and preparations for Valentine’s Day, only to discover strange glowing flowers popping up all across town. Showrunner Eric Robles teased the new threat, explaining that the crew initially believes life is returning to normal before realizing the flowers carry a supernatural secret.

Robles offered additional insight into how the season’s central mystery escalates, noting that Nikki and Max end up scheming to sell the flowers around Hawkins, which only spreads the problem further once the flowers become far more widespread than anyone anticipated. He also teased unexplored territory for the season, mentioning a mine in Hawkins the show hasn’t yet dug into, hinting at fresh locations beyond the familiar haunts like Hawkins Middle School and the Palace Arcade.

The Season 1 finale left things on a chilling note, with the group defeating the mutated Horde Queen only for a glowing blue stem to burst from her corpse in the Upside Down, unfurling into the unmistakable maw of a Demogorgon. Robles has described that moment as the beginning of an entirely new mystery and chapter for the series moving forward, suggesting the flower phenomenon and this new threat are directly connected.

The full voice cast returns for Season 2, including Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Luca Diaz as Mike, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, and Odessa A’zion as newcomer Nikki, whose family is officially confirmed to be staying in Hawkins going forward. Fans can also expect Eleven to get significantly more screen time this season, with Hopper extending her curfew just in time for more D&D sessions with the group.

Despite the quick turnaround between seasons, Season 1 had a relatively modest viewership run, spending only two weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 and logging 23.9 million viewing hours. Whether the tighter eight-episode format and darker new mystery can help Season 2 make a bigger splash remains to be seen once it lands on Netflix next month.
