Streaming Hits: ‘The Pitt’ Finale Soars, ‘The White Lotus’ Still on Top
The season finale of The Pitt has made a big impact on streaming charts. The Max series has been building an audience through word of mouth, and the final episode of season one brought in a huge boost in viewership.
During the week of April 7-13, The Pitt was watched for 852 million minutes, a 44% increase from the 590 million minutes the week before. This impressive jump makes it one of the most successful Max original series in Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
Max also had the most-watched series of the week with The White Lotus, which kept its top spot even after its season three finale. The show reached 1.25 billion minutes of viewing during the same week, just a bit less than the previous week’s 1.31 billion minutes. Since The White Lotus also airs on HBO, Nielsen counts it as an acquired series.
Other series that stayed popular after their finales included Paramount+’s 1923, which gathered 949 million minutes, and Prime Video’s Reacher, with 579 million minutes. Surprisingly, Reacher is still holding strong two weeks after its season finale.
Netflix’s Black Mirror also made a splash with the premiere of its seventh season on April 10, drawing 1.08 billion minutes of viewing. Although this is slightly less than the 1.36 billion minutes from season six’s debut week in 2023, it still marked a solid return for the series.
Meanwhile, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale returned with its final season after a long break, drawing in 921 million minutes. This is a significant jump from the 581 million minutes the start of season five had back in September 2022.
In the movie category, Prime Video’s action film G20, starring Viola Davis, took the top spot. It was watched for 516 million minutes in its premiere week.
It’s important to note that Nielsen’s streaming numbers only include viewing on TV screens and do not count minutes watched on mobile devices or computers. The data also only represents U.S. audiences, not international viewers.
The week of April 7-13, 2025, turned out to be a strong one for several major streaming titles, with The Pitt, The White Lotus, and Black Mirror leading the way.
