‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ Episode 4 Release Date: When the Multiverse Chaos Continues

‘The Big Bang Theory’ universe has officially gone multiversal, and fans of the beloved sitcom’s extended family are already hooked on its newest spinoff. Following in the footsteps of ‘Young Sheldon’ and ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’, this latest chapter takes a wild swing away from the franchise’s traditional sitcom roots into full-blown sci-fi comedy territory.

The series follows Stuart Bloom, the beloved comic book store owner played once again by Kevin Sussman, as he accidentally breaks a multiversal device left behind by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter. That single mistake sends Stuart, along with his girlfriend Denise, geologist Bert Kibbler, and quantum physicist Barry Kripke, tumbling through alternate realities in a desperate attempt to restore order before reality collapses entirely.

‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe‘ Episode 4 premieres on HBO Max on Thursday, August 13, 2026, continuing the show’s weekly Thursday release schedule that began with the series premiere on July 23. New episodes drop at 6:00 p.m. PT, or 9:00 p.m. ET, a timing pattern that has held consistent since the show’s debut.

Co-creator Bill Prady has described the show’s central premise as picking up years after the events of ‘The Big Bang Theory’, but with a twist. He explained, “We start in an alternate universe, but it would be contemporaneous with a continuous timeline, so it picks up years after [the events of The Big Bang Theory]. We start in the wrong world with instructions on how to set things right. That is the mission.”

Co-creator Zak Penn has also framed the series’ unconventional structure as something of a commentary on multiverse-driven television itself, name-checking Sheldon’s favorite in-show series Alphas as a touchstone. He noted, “The historic length of a show is entirely arbitrary… So, why not just make the best show we can and hope the audience is entertained?” That freewheeling approach has allowed each episode to explore a different alternate version of familiar faces from the original series, sending the core cast through apocalyptic wastelands and bizarre parallel worlds along the way.

Episode 4 arrives roughly at the season’s midpoint, with six more episodes still to come before the season wraps. Following this installment, Episode 5 is set to premiere on August 20, followed by Episode 6 on August 27, Episode 7 on September 3, Episode 8 on September 10, Episode 9 on September 17, and the season finale on September 24, 2026.

The full ten-episode season marks the franchise’s fourth entry overall, following the original sitcom, ‘Young Sheldon’, and ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’. Sussman has been clear that despite reprising his role from the flagship series, this spinoff is charting entirely new territory tonally compared to the multi-camera sitcom format that made ‘The Big Bang Theory’ a household name.

With the multiverse chaos only escalating and plenty of alternate versions of familiar characters still likely waiting to be revealed, ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ shows no signs of slowing its ambitious sci-fi swing anytime soon.
