That accidental disaster kicks off the multiverse chaos that drives the entire show. Stuart is very much the heart of the series, even when he is failing spectacularly.
Fellow ‘The Big Bang Theory’ alumni Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie also star, and the show comes from Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Zak Penn. A second season would presumably keep that core team together, though nothing has been confirmed about the cast.

Zak Penn added that the team purposefully writes itself into corners and then figures out how to escape them. In his view, not knowing where the story is headed is part of what makes the process more enjoyable. It is a risky method, but it might be the reason the show feels so unpredictable.
The same interview revealed some fan pitches the team promised to keep in mind. One idea was to bring back the late George Cooper through an alternate universe, giving ‘Young Sheldon’ fans the ending they wanted. Another was a universe where Christine Baranski is an AI overlord. Penn replied that an infinite number of universes exist, so the one fans are looking for would exist by definition.
Critics are split on how well the concept works. Screen Rant called the sci-fi story a bold risk that ultimately underwhelms in its execution. The A.V. Club, meanwhile, expects there is plenty more sci-fi territory for Sussman to flop sweat his way around.
