Maggie Sullivan’s journey in Sullivan’s Crossing has been filled with emotional challenges, and Season 4 has pushed her through one of her toughest moments yet. Her relationship with Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray) was shaken when Liam (Marcus Rosner), her secret husband from the past, suddenly returned and forced Maggie to face unresolved parts of her life.

The return of Liam created a complicated situation for Maggie, who had finally started building a future with Cal. Fans who have been supporting Maggie and Cal were surprised by the new love triangle, but actress Morgan Kohan explained that Liam’s arrival was important for Maggie’s personal growth.

Speaking with Swooon, Kohan revealed that the Season 4 finale will not answer everything immediately. Instead, viewers should expect another emotional ending that leaves room for more questions.

“We will be left with a cliffhanger,” Kohan said. “There’s definitely some resolution there. There will be answers to things for sure.”

While the finale may leave fans wanting more, Kohan believes Maggie will be in a much better place by the end of the season. She explained that the character has changed a lot throughout the series and will finish Season 4 feeling more stable and confident.

“I think Maggie leaves Season 4 in a much more grounded and happier place than in the beginning,” the actress said.

For Maggie, the conflict with Liam was not only about choosing between two men. It was also about looking back at who she used to be and deciding what kind of person she wants to become.

Kohan explained that Liam’s return forced Maggie to rethink important parts of her life. “I think it’s her kind of reckoning with how much of that is true to who she is today, or has just pushed a lot of this aside to make the version of herself now fit nicely,” she said.

Although many viewers have been firmly on Cal’s side, Kohan pointed out that the show never wanted Liam to simply be seen as a villain. The writers wanted fans to understand why Maggie has feelings for both men and why the decision is difficult.

“These are two wonderful men who care so much about her, who are kind, who want to do good in the world, but they just speak to different versions of her,” Kohan explained.

The actress also teased what she would like to explore if Sullivan’s Crossing continues into Season 5. The series has already been renewed, and Kohan hopes future episodes focus more on Maggie’s friendships and happier moments.

“I always just want to see more of Maggie and her friends,” she said. She added that Seasons 3 and 4 allowed audiences to see a lighter side of Maggie after the emotional struggles of the earlier seasons.

“We’ve gotten to see more of her in moments of lightness and fun and frivolity, and getting to see her a little bit more at peace,” Kohan shared.

After years of watching Maggie deal with loss, career pressure, and complicated relationships, fans will now see how she handles the next stage of her life. Whether that future includes Cal, Liam, or something completely unexpected remains one of the biggest questions heading into the finale.

With Sullivan’s Crossing already confirmed to return, Maggie’s story is far from over. The Season 4 finale may bring some answers, but it appears the show still has plenty of emotional twists waiting for viewers.
