The next chapter in Nintendo’s biggest movie hit is almost here. After the first Super Mario Bros. Movie pulled in a massive $1.3 billion worldwide, a sequel was never in doubt. Now, Universal Pictures, Illumination, and Nintendo are ready to take fans in a bold new direction with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

A new teaser for the film has just been released online ahead of its full Super Bowl debut. The footage gives fans their clearest look yet at what’s coming next. This time, Mario’s world goes far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom and straight into space. The movie is set to arrive in theaters on April 1, according to the studios.

The teaser confirms that the sequel pulls heavily from the Super Mario Galaxy games while also mixing in elements from other fan-favorite titles. New scenes show Peach and Toad exploring a sleek, futuristic planet packed with familiar enemies. Some of them are deep cuts longtime players will recognize right away.

One major reveal is Bowser Jr., voiced by Benny Safdie. The trailer hints that he may transform into a more powerful “Fury” version, signaling a bigger threat ahead. Fans also caught a glimpse of the Ukiki monkey, a character first seen in Super Mario 64, once again causing trouble by stealing items and running off.

The footage doesn’t stop there. Quick shots reveal locations inspired by Super Mario Odyssey, including Tostarena Town. Mario and Luigi appear in outfits that match the setting, and Yoshi makes a flashy entrance with what looks like his own motorcycle.

The animation style also stands out. The worlds look bigger, brighter, and more detailed than before. Sharp-eyed viewers have already spotted hidden references, including classic Nintendo symbols tucked into the background. The teaser suggests the movie will be packed with small nods meant to reward longtime fans.

Information about the trailer and its contents comes from the newly released promotional footage shared online by Universal Pictures ahead of the Super Bowl rollout.

This sequel looks like it understands what fans love about Mario. It goes big, takes risks, and celebrates the games without feeling stuck in one place. Moving the story into space feels like a smart way to raise the stakes while keeping things fun.
