Super Yacht Skipper Shares His Favorite Celebrity Guest

A skipper who works on a super yacht for the ultra-wealthy has shared some behind-the-scenes stories, including which celebrity left the best impression.

The skipper, who chose to remain anonymous, spoke on Reddit in an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) thread about his experiences over the past ten years.

“For the last 10 years, I’ve worked all the way from deck to bridge, and have worked for the biggest names in movie, art, finance, politics and technology, each of these experiences had their very good and their very bad,” he wrote. Users in the comments asked a range of questions, and the captain opened up about some unusual moments he has witnessed onboard.

One story involved food preferences. Despite having access to a fully stocked kitchen with fancy meals, some guests wanted very simple dishes. “We onboarded charter guests from the Bahamas with the most wonderful galley full of extravagant food and they literally wanted nuggets and chips and burgers for 10 days and nothing else… we were in a bit of trouble there,” the skipper explained.

This shows that being rich does not always mean having refined tastes.

The Reddit user also detailed his favorite celebrity who boarded the super yacht, with that crown going to Tom Hanks, and the Hanks family more generally.

“The Hanks family. I love those guys,” the captain said before adding: “Mr Hanks has one of the strongest moral compasses I’ve ever seen and I have nothing but praise for that man and his family.”

The captain did not reveal the name of the yacht or all of the celebrities he has worked with.
