Superman Actor Says He’s “Stepping Up” as He Joins ICE Next Month
Dean Cain, who became famous for playing Superman on the 1990s TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, is about to join U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as an honorary officer.
This information was shared by Tricia McLaughlin, the spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, who said Cain will be sworn in next month. However, it’s not yet clear what his duties will be in this honorary role.
Cain spoke about his decision during an interview on Fox News. He explained that he had already talked with officials at ICE and is ready to start his new role soon. Cain, now 59, also said he is a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer.
He told Fox News, “I put out a recruitment video yesterday – I’m actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer – I wasn’t part of ICE, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy.”
Earlier this week, Cain shared a video on social media encouraging others to join ICE. The Department of Homeland Security recently announced it is removing age limits for new ICE hires. The agency hopes to bring in many new employees after Congress approved a large increase in funding. This move comes as ICE ramps up its immigration enforcement efforts.
Cain said on Fox News, “I’m stepping up. Hopefully, a whole bunch of other former officers, former ICE agents, will step up and we’ll meet those recruitment goals immediately, and we’ll help protect this country.” When asked what motivated him, Cain replied, “This country was built on patriots stepping up, whether it was popular or not, and doing the right thing. I truly believe this is the right thing.”
He added, “We have a broken immigration system. Congress needs to fix it, but in the interim, President Trump ran on this. He is delivering on this. This is what people voted for. It’s what I voted for, and he’s going to see it through, and I’ll do my part and help make sure it happens.”
Cain’s joining ICE comes at a time when the agency faces heavy criticism. Since President Trump returned to office, ICE has increased immigration raids, causing protests and legal battles in many states. Some critics call the raids unlawful, and California’s Governor Gavin Newsom has challenged the president’s authority in court. Earlier this year, Trump also sent National Guard troops to Los Angeles during protests over immigration enforcement.
Dean Cain’s political views have changed over time. He told Fox News that he was once a registered Republican but later became an Independent because he felt the Republican Party did not represent his beliefs fully.
Cain voted for Bill Clinton twice and Al Gore in 2000, though he later regretted voting for Gore. He supported John McCain in 2008 and Rick Perry in 2012. In 2016, 2020, and 2024, Cain endorsed and voted for Donald Trump.
In 2018, Cain was elected to the board of directors of the National Rifle Association, reflecting his interest in conservative and law enforcement causes.
McLaughlin from Homeland Security also made a light-hearted comment about Cain’s famous role as Superman. She said, “Superman is encouraging Americans to become real-life superheroes.”
