‘Superman’ Soars Past ‘Man of Steel’ to Become Top-Grossing Superman Solo Film in the U.S.
James Gunn’s Superman is proving to be a major win for DC. The new movie has officially passed Man of Steel to become the highest-grossing Superman solo film in the U.S. And that’s not all, it’s pulling in huge numbers around the world too.
According to recent box office reports, Superman has now earned over $500 million globally. Out of that total, $292 million has come from theaters in the U.S. and Canada alone. That means it has now topped Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which held the domestic record for over a decade. Man of Steel grossed $291 million in the United States and Canada
Superman needed to gross more than $500 million worldwide to become profitable at the box office, but it would need to earn around $700 million to be considered a success
Starring David Corenswet as Superman, this new version of the hero has been well-received by fans and critics.
Many people are praising the movie for its lighter tone and more hopeful feel, something that stands in contrast to the darker style of the old DCEU films. The movie is also getting a lot of love online, with a 91% verified audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
James Gunn, who also wrote and directed the film, has taken Superman in a fresh direction. And so far, the results speak for themselves. Besides breaking the solo Superman record in North America, the film also pulled off the biggest Wednesday box office total of 2025 in the U.S.
Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult stepping into the role of Lex Luthor. The cast is packed with familiar faces from movies and TV. Names like Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Skyler Gisondo are all part of the DC world now, playing well-known characters from the comics.
The movie seems to be exactly what DC needed after the rocky run of the previous universe. Fans are back in theaters, critics are impressed, and box office numbers are climbing. It looks like James Gunn’s take on Superman is helping the DC Universe find its footing again.
Superman is now showing in theaters everywhere. And from the looks of it, this might just be the start of something big.
