Suri, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ Daughter, Officially Drops Cruise Last Name
Suri, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially changed her legal name. According to voter registration records obtained by PEOPLE, the 20-year-old is now legally known as Suri Noelle instead of Suri Cruise.
The change became public after PEOPLE confirmed the updated records. Page Six was the first outlet to report the news. Suri registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in October 2024 while attending her first year at Carnegie Mellon University. Her voter registration lists her name as Suri Noelle.
The new last name appears to be a tribute to her mother. Noelle is Katie Holmes’ middle name.
The name change did not happen overnight. Months before officially registering to vote under her new name, Suri had already started using it publicly. During her high school graduation in June 2024, she was listed as Suri Noelle instead of Suri Cruise.
That graduation weekend also drew attention for another reason. While Suri celebrated finishing high school, Tom Cruise was in London attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium.
Suri was born in April 2006, just months before Cruise and Holmes married in November of the same year. Their marriage ended in 2012 when the couple divorced. Since then, Holmes has largely raised Suri away from the public spotlight.
Although Suri has kept a low profile over the years, Holmes has occasionally spoken about her daughter. In an interview with Town & Country in August 2024, she shared how she felt about Suri leaving for college.
“I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” Holmes said.
She also reflected on that stage of life, adding, “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
Later that year, Holmes also responded to online reports involving her daughter. In December 2024, she pushed back against a Daily Mail story claiming Suri had gained access to a trust fund from her father after turning 18.
Holmes denied the report on Instagram by posting a screenshot of the article and writing, “Completely false.” She also addressed the newspaper directly, adding, “Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up.” In the caption of the post, she wrote, “Enough.”
According to PEOPLE, Suri has continued to stay out of the public eye while focusing on college. However, she made a rare appearance in August 2025 when she was photographed visiting Holmes on the New York set of the film Happy Hours. The mother and daughter were seen walking together before Holmes filmed scenes with her former Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson.
What do you think about Suri's legal name change?
The legal name change marks another personal milestone for Suri as she continues building her own life. While she has chosen to keep a private lifestyle, officially becoming Suri Noelle reflects a decision that has now been confirmed through public records, according to PEOPLE.
