The upcoming game Borderlands 4 has announced its pricing and editions, giving fans plenty to look forward to. The Standard Edition will cost $59.99, a price that’s lower than earlier rumors suggesting it could hit $80. That rumor sparked some fan complaints, but the final price seems to have calmed things down.

For those wanting more, the Deluxe Edition is priced at $99.99. It includes extra gear, new vehicles, and additional story missions.

The top-tier Super Deluxe Edition, at $129.99, offers everything in the Deluxe Edition plus two new playable characters, more areas to explore, and extra cosmetic items.

Randy Pitchford Says “Real Fans” Will Pay $80 for ‘Borderlands 4,’ and People Are Not Happy

Randy Pitchford, a key figure at Gearbox, addressed the earlier price concerns. He explained that pricing isn’t his decision, but added that dedicated fans would find a way to buy the game. He shared a personal story about saving up for an expensive game in 1991 while working a minimum-wage job, suggesting fans could do the same.

If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen,” Pitchford wrote.
“My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen.”

The game introduces a fresh setting on the planet Kairos, where players will battle a villain called the Timekeeper and his group, the Order. Players can pick from four new Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities. With countless weapons to choose from, the game promises endless ways to fight enemies.

The world of Kairos is the largest in the series so far, and new movement options make exploring it more exciting.

David Ismailer, President of 2K, praised the game’s progress. He said Gearbox has taken the series to new heights with improved gameplay and storytelling while keeping the chaotic shooting action fans expect.

“I’ve been blown away by how high the team at Gearbox have raised the bar for Borderlands 4,” he said. “The development team crafted a premium AAA adventure that evolves the series’ gameplay and storytelling in new ways, while delivering on the quintessential Borderlands looter-shooter experience fans know and love.”

Post-launch plans include free and paid content, such as new missions, enemies, locations, and two additional Vault Hunters for those who buy certain packs. More details on these will come later. Pre-ordering any edition unlocks the Gilded Glory Pack, which includes skins for a Vault Hunter, a weapon, and the ECHO-4 drone. This pack is free with pre-orders but will cost extra after release.

Borderlands 4 is rated M for Mature and will be available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW streaming service.

The pricing for Borderlands 4 feels fair, especially after the backlash over the rumored $80 Standard Edition. Offering multiple editions gives players choices, though the $129.99 Super Deluxe Edition might feel steep for some.

The promise of a bigger world and new characters is exciting, but I hope the post-launch content doesn’t feel like a cash grab. What do you think about the pricing and new features? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
