The first trailer for Swiped has been released, giving audiences a look at Lily James as Whitney Wolfe Herd, the woman who built Bumble and shook up the world of dating apps.

The movie is a biographical drama written and directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg and is backed by 20th Century Studios.

Swiped premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9 and it’s going to head to theaters in the United States on September 19. The story follows Wolfe Herd as she leaves college, fights her way into a male-dominated tech world, and builds one of the most popular dating apps in the world.

The film will also cover her time helping to start Tinder and the steps that led Bumble to go public in 2021, making her the youngest female self-made billionaire.

The cast is led by Lily James as Wolfe Herd, with Dan Stevens, Myha’la, Jackson White, and several others joining the film. Production began in Los Angeles in May 2024 and wrapped two months later. Doug Emmett worked as the cinematographer, Julia Wong edited the film, and Chanda Dancy composed the score.

In an earlier announcement, 20th Century Studios confirmed Rachel Lee Goldenberg was both directing and co-writing the project. Casting updates were revealed throughout the spring of 2024, with names like Dan Stevens and Ben Schnetzer added in May, and more actors joining in June.

The trailer highlights the challenges Wolfe Herd faced after leaving Tinder, showing her determination to create an app that gave women more control in online dating. It also teases the high-stakes world of tech startups and the personal battles behind the scenes.

Swiped will be available in the U.S. on September 19 through Hulu.

The trailer shows this will be more than just a business story. It looks like a mix of drama and inspiration, showing how someone changed the rules of tech and made history. Lily James seems like a great fit for the role, and it could be one of her standout performances. What do you think? Are you planning to watch Swiped when it comes out?
