Reacher‘ has built its reputation on delivering a mostly new cast with each season, adapting a different Lee Child novel and surrounding Alan Ritchson’s towering title character with a fresh set of allies and adversaries every time. Season 4 continues that pattern, adapting the 2009 novel ‘Gone Tomorrow’ and sending Reacher into a sprawling conspiracy after witnessing a subway suicide in New York that turns out to be connected to a corrupt politician and a deadly terrorist plot, with the season already renewed for a fifth installment.

Among the new faces introduced this season is Tamara Green, a sharp, no-nonsense Philadelphia detective who becomes entangled in Reacher’s investigation. The role is played by Sydelle Noel, an actor with roughly two decades of screen credits behind her, and it turns out her path to playing Tamara wasn’t quite as straightforward as fans might assume.

Noel revealed that she was actually up for a completely different role on the show before landing the Tamara Green part. Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly, Noel said she was previously considered for Neagley, Reacher’s skilled former Army master sergeant and right-hand investigator, a role that ultimately went to Maria Sten. Noel explained that she hadn’t watched ‘Reacher’ before joining Season 4, though she was familiar with the franchise through the earlier Tom Cruise films.

Despite missing out on that earlier role, Noel described landing Tamara as an even better fit. She told Us Weekly that during her audition, she immediately felt a connection to the character, recalling a moment where her husband pointed out that all her track running experience had apparently been preparing her for exactly this kind of physically demanding role.

Noel’s casting has resonated with fans partly because her face is instantly recognizable from several major projects. She’s likely best known for playing Cherry Bang on Netflix’s ‘GLOW,’ a role that let her lean into her background as a former professional track athlete, and she has spoken openly about wanting to become an action hero in an industry she feels has few visible Black women in that space.

Beyond ‘GLOW,’ Noel appeared in Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ as a member of the Dora Milaje, the all-female warriors tasked with protecting Wakanda, though she initially hesitated to take the role due to its limited dialogue before ultimately embracing what she called the power of presence over words. She’s also had a recurring arc on The CW’s ‘Arrow’ as FBI Agent Samanda Watson, along with credits in projects like ‘The Clearing’ and ‘Daughter of the Wolf.’

Within the show, Tamara is described as a world-weary Philadelphia cop who gets pulled into Reacher’s orbit after being unfairly punished for a difficult moral decision earlier in her career. That backstory sets up a character forced to confront her own past while navigating the brutal reality of joining Reacher’s mission, all while matching his trademark dry wit along the way.

Season 4 also introduces several other new characters alongside Tamara, including Christopher Marquette as Jacob Merrick and Agnez Mo as Lila Hoth, with Kevin Corrigan playing Tamara’s detective partner, Shaun Docherty. With three episodes already released and the rest of the season continuing to roll out weekly, fans will have plenty more chances to see how Noel’s version of Tamara Green develops as the season’s central conspiracy deepens.
