Sydney Sweeney has spoken publicly about the rumors of tension among the Euphoria cast, directly addressing speculation about her relationship with Zendaya. The comments were made in a Vanity Fair interview, where she responded to ongoing online chatter that suggested a feud behind the scenes of the HBO series.

The rumors picked up attention before and after the show’s final season aired, with fans pointing to small public moments as possible signs of conflict. Zendaya reportedly left an L.A. premiere after a short appearance, which fueled further speculation. At the same time, Sweeney posted a cast-related message on social media that did not include Zendaya, which some viewers interpreted as intentional.

The final season itself also added to the conversation. The characters played by Sweeney and Zendaya had limited interaction on screen, and in one storyline Rue attends Cassie’s wedding before leaving quickly. They do not share meaningful scenes together, which led some fans to assume there was tension off-camera as well.

Sweeney rejected those ideas in her interview and described the speculation as exaggerated. She said, “It’s honestly crazy to watch how much social media and the press spin things.” She explained that the cast spent years working closely together and grew up alongside each other during the production of the series.

She also spoke about how production worked behind the scenes. According to Sweeney, the actors often did not see each other’s full storylines while filming. They were usually given only their own scenes, which meant they had to learn what others were doing by talking casually in trailers between shoots. This created moments where even the cast would react to each other’s plot developments in real time.

Sweeney also addressed another part of the speculation around delays in production. Some online theories suggested scheduling conflicts were caused by cast members prioritizing other Hollywood projects. She pushed back on this, saying HBO contracts placed strict limits on outside work. She explained, “I was in first position to HBO. So the moment they say, ‘Hey, this is the first day of filming,’ I’m legally not allowed to do anything else.” She added that the same rules applied to the rest of the main cast.

Despite the rumors, Sweeney described the overall experience of working on Euphoria as collaborative and shared. She said the cast spent a lot of time together during filming and often compared notes on what they were shooting that day, since the full story was not always visible to everyone at once.

The interview, reported by Vanity Fair, presents a direct response from Sweeney to years of speculation about cast relationships. While online theories continued to circulate throughout the show’s run, her comments make clear that, from her perspective, the narrative of behind-the-scenes drama does not match the reality of production.
