The Housemaid is based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel of the same name, with the screenplay adapted by Rebecca Sonnenshine. Paul Feig directs the film, with production handled by Feig himself alongside Todd Lieberman and Laura Fischer through Hidden Pictures. Both Sweeney and Seyfried joined the project in October 2024 as lead actresses and executive producers, alongside McFadden and Alex Young. Filming took place over three months, from January to March, in New Jersey.
The cast includes a range of characters who add depth to the story. Sweeney portrays Millie, navigating the challenges of her new role while uncovering unsettling truths. Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, with Sklenar as her husband Andrew.
Michele Morrone appears as the groundskeeper Enzo, and Elizabeth Perkins portrays Evelyn Winchester, the family matriarch. Supporting roles feature Indiana Elle as the daughter Cecelia, Mark Grossman as Millie’s first boyfriend Scott, and other actors filling key parts in Millie’s life and the household drama.
Composer Theodore Shapiro has created the score for the film, marking his eighth collaboration with Feig. His music is expected to heighten the tension and drama, complementing the psychological thriller elements that the story promises.
The Housemaid is scheduled to be released in theaters across the United States and Canada on December 19, distributed by Lionsgate. With the final trailer now out, viewers get a glimpse of the eerie tension, secrets, and emotional stakes that will drive the plot. Fans of Sweeney and Seyfried, as well as thriller enthusiasts, are eagerly awaiting the film’s premiere.
