Sydney Sweeney on ‘Madame Web Bombing I Was Just Hired as an Actress in It

It’s been exactly a month since ‘Madame Web’ released and what was supposed to be the next installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (without Spider-Man in it) that expands on the popular side-characters, quickly turned out into a massive loss for a studio and meme factory. The movie turned out to be both commercial and box-office failure failing to outearn ‘Morbius,’ previous record-holder when it comes to the bar of bad SSU movies.

The cast members are coping in their own ways, Sweeney who played Julia Carpenter one of the Spider-Women already joked about the movie in a lighthearted way, while her co-star Dakota Johnson (Cassandra Web) gave some serious statements to the press about how the film studios execs need to take a long hard look at what they are creating. Johnson also allegedly found herself in hot water after some statements with an industry insider claiming that it’s going to take a lot to bring Johnson back to the good graces of the [Sony] Studio.

Sydney Sweeney gave a more serious statement during her Los Angeles Times interview while presenting her latest movie ‘Immaculate.’ When asked about general ‘Madame Web’ failure Sweeney shot down the conversation pretty quickly:

I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.

Meaning that Sweeney refuses to take credit for the writing and directorial team’s failures. Which is completely fair. Only a tiny minority of people criticized the performances. Most of the people pointed out plot holes, poor writing, ridiculous dialogues, lack of action, and poor quality of the CGI. There’s also the fact that the movie was marketed pretty heavily by already grown-up and superpowered Spider-Women, who in the movie show up for several seconds in a dream sequence.

In any case, we look forward to more of Sweeney’s projects, ‘Madame Web’ shouldn’t and won’t impact her career in the least. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
