Directed by Paul Feig and written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, The Housemaid is based on the 2022 novel by Freida McFadden. The story follows Sweeney’s character, a young woman with a troubled past, who takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for a wealthy family played by Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. What seems like a perfect life quickly unravels when she discovers the household is hiding dark secrets.
The Housemaid premiered at the Axa Equitable Center in New York City on December 2, and opened in U.S. theaters on December 19. Critics have given the film positive reviews, praising Feig’s direction, the twists in the story, and the performances of the cast, particularly Amanda Seyfried.
